A Cordless Vacuum Cleaner - The Latest In Convenience

by Scott Gray

If you have a cordless vacuum cleaner in your arsenal of cleaning tools, you save not only time and frustration when speed is of the essence, but you can also stop worrying about extension cords and inconveniently placed electrical outlets. For quick clean-up jobs or whenever you want to clean the interior of the car or the furniture on the porch or patio, there is nothing to beat a cordless vacuum.

Major Advantages
- They are worth their weight in gold if you dont have an electrical outlet to handle a plug-in machine. Enough said about that.
- No matter how wonderful a performance you enjoy with your central, upright, or canister vacuum, when you have a small spill or are in a major rush, you will reach for that cordless vacuum in a heartbeat. Who has time to assemble attachments on a canister or an upright, or to struggle with the long hose of a central system when you can see your mother-in-law coming up the driveway?
- Cordless vacuums will pick up dust and dirt from crevices and corners that cant be reached with a large vacuum without the bother of assembling an extra attachment.

Drawbacks
- You cant expect a cordless vacuum to handle the regular cleaning of a house or a large apartment, and most have a disappointing performance when it comes to deep cleaning carpets. Consider a cordless vacuum as a supplement to your main vacuuming machine.
- Most cordless machines are not built with air quality in mind, and will exhaust some dust back into the air. Hold out for one with a HEPA filter if anyone in the household suffers from allergies or breathing problems. Its the best.
- You have to remember to keep your vacuum charged, or, if it uses batteries, you have the expense of buying them and keeping them on hand.
- A small, inexpensive cordless vacuum cleaner will have a small filter and will trap dirt and dust in a small bin. You will have to stop vacuuming within ten minutes or so to empty the bin and you will probably need to re-charge it by then. Dont expect these machines to last more than two or three years; on the other hand, it doesnt cost much to replace them.

What Should Govern Your Choice?
You will get what you pay for when you buy a cordless vacuum cleaner.
- If saving time and effort when taking care of small spills and clean-up jobs is your priority, look for an inexpensive, hand-held, cordless machine.
- If you want to be able to deep-clean your car with a cordless machine that has great suction, prepare to pay as much as you would for a full-sized vacuum. Forget a handheld and choose from the heavier backpacks, uprights, or canister styles, and see that it comes with all necessary vacuum cleaner attachments.
- Metal will outlast plastic and if you dont want to listen to disturbing rattles coming from the vacuum after a few months, spring for metal construction. Metal, however, is a lot heavier than plastic, and if you want a handheld or backpack machine, note the weight when you compare vacuums because you will be lugging it around.
- Robot cordless vacuums can have good suction but are expensive and cant get into corners and have a tough time getting onto rugs.
- When deciding between rechargeable vacuums and the battery models, keep in mind that you need a suitable place to keep a rechargeable vacuum attached to the plugged-in re-charger. If you decide batteries are more convenient, remember that you will have the ongoing cost of replacing them.
- When comparing prices and looking for a discount or sale price, also check to see if batteries or re-chargers are included.
- When you think youve found the best vacuum in the world, read the reviews and see what other users think of it before you buy.

No one wants to spend more time than necessary on unrewarding cleaning chores, but a cordless vacuum can make some cleaning jobs a breeze. Nothing can stop you once you have your very own, handy, dandy cordless vacuum cleaner.
