by Rob Buenaventura

Do you like the look of hardwood but you want something different? Distressed hardwood floor is becoming increasingly popular with people who are looking for something different in their home. A distressed hardwood floor is not new, however it is becoming a new trend again particularly with upscale homes and commercial buildings. Reclaimed hardwood floors offer this look of distress, however it can be hard to come by reclaimed hardwood, therefore a distressed floor will provide a similar look.

A distressed hardwood floor does not come cheaply. However there are a few different options that you can have when choosing your distressed floor. A hand scraped floor or a machine scraped floor. Many companies are using a machine to create the distressed look which reduces labor costs and provides a nice finish. The only problem with this is that the distressed pattern is repeating and you may notice a clear pattern on your floor. If you truly want that custom, unique look you will need hand scraped boards.

You can have a distressed hardwood floor that is refinished, or one that is finished on site. Many companies offer consumers a choice between heavy, medium or light distressing. If you choose a distressed or scrapped look, you will have a darker finish because the darker colors sink into the scratches and cracks and provide depth to the pattern. A distressed hardwood floor definitely offers a unique look that will become a conversation piece in your home.
