Walnut hardwood floor is a classic choice of flooring that offers you a lot of strength and durability as well as a classic look. When you choose walnut hardwood floor you will have a few choices as far as the final look and finish and can choose between two very different looks.
The two main types of walnut hardwood floor are heartwood and sapwood. Heartwood offers a deep, rich dark brown wood that can even range as dark as a purplish black color. Sapwood is a much lighter choice of walnut flooring that is almost white to tan in color. Some manufactures do not offer the color choices; they simply steam the darker wood to match it to the sapwood walnut. Walnut flooring has a nice straight and open grain to the boards, with only some boards offering burls or curling in the grain.
Walnut hardwood floor is a nice wood to work with; it cuts cleanly and can be nailed and glued nicely for an excellent finish. It is a moderately dense wood so it will provide you with a very strong floor. You can choose between an oil finish which gives you a darker looking wood or a water based finish which provides a lighter looking finished product.
