Benefits of Unique Wide Plank Flooring

by Rob Buenaventura

It doesn`t really matter if you are building a new home from the ground up or renovating the home you have, you will find that choosing the proper flooring is one of the biggest decisions you will need to make. The trouble is that there are so many materials from which to choose. The first decision you need to make is the type of material you will use for your flooring. Once you decide the type, such as hardwood, you will have even more decisions. If you choose hardwood you will now need to choose the actual type of hardwood you would like to have in your home. Among those from which to choose are the following: regular plank floors, wide plank floors, and narrow plank floors.

With so many decisions you might find that it is quite difficult to make the final selection. Wide plank flooring may be just the result you need. This type of flooring is becoming more and more popular but is not yet mainstream enough that it is common. This will give you a rather unique type of flooring for your home that is still stunning.

Why Choose Wide Plank Flooring?

1) Wide plank flooring allows your home to follow in the footsteps of some of the more historical traditions involved in the installation of hardwood floors. If you take a walk through history you will find that modern wide-planked hardwood floors follow closely in this tradition. The older wide planks were actually cut from old growth wood, which is nearly impossible to find in new floors but rather simple to recreate. Your wide plank flooring will give your home the authentic air of homes from colonial America.

2) Less seems. For me this is one important factor when it comes to considering wide planks over those that are narrower in design. Seems create pockets for potential problems. Fewer planks reduce the risks of potential problems and make replacing them easier if it comes down to it.

3) Many colors from which to choose. When it comes to selection you will not feel cheated when it comes to using wider planks for your flooring. You will find that the variety of colors and woods extends into wider plank boards and you have just as many colors, shapes, and wood types from which to choose as you would have with other types of boards.

4) Uniqueness. Perhaps the greatest reason to select wide planks for your flooring option is that these boards are used in homes far less often than their narrower counterparts. This means that your floors will be somewhat unique within your market area. This is a great way to maintain a little bit of defiant independence while still managing to enjoy the beauty and elegance of hardwood.

Wide plank floors allow you to bring a bit of the past into your home of today. They provide a unique style that is compatible with almost any décor and come in a wide range of styles and colors. You will find that these floors in many cases offer the perfect finishing touch for your home.
